HNST jeans require 91% less water than conventional denim. They use Smart-IndigoTM dyeing technique which uses less harmful chemicals, and ecological washing methods that are verified by GOTS, Bluesign, or ZDHC. Nearly half their finishing process is powered by solar energy, and they source and produce locally within Europe. You can find detailed information about the impact of each item on the product pages. For even more transparency, they have a page on the website dedicated to showing the challenges and things they are still trying to improve. For their fabrics, they work with certificates: OCS, GRS and OEKO-TEX 100
One of their main raw materials is recycled cotton (partly coming from previous HNST items). They also use BCI cotton, organic cotton and Tencel. For trimmings, they use recycled PET zippers, recycled polyester stitching yarn and Jacron back patches
Their garments are made in the European Union, so the manufacturers comply with the European working standards and regulations
HNST jeans are designed with circular processes front of mind. This means the garments can easily be taken apart and recycled (natural materials, embroidered instead of metal rivets, removable and reusable buttons, and minimal usage of labels by printing info instead). They offer a repair service and you’re able to return HNST products when you don’t want them anymore. They will recycle them
