How To Re-create The ‘Gossip Girl’ Reboot Outfits Sustainably – Part 5

7 outfits worn by Julien Calloway in Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl defined an entire generation and had a big influence on the fashion of the 2010s. What the characters wore played a huge role in the teen drama, and Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen are still seen as true fashion icons. Two years ago, it was announced the hit series would be coming back with a new cast. Both the original and the reboot, have the same costume designer, which can only result in new iconic and influential fashion to inspire the new generation. It’s been around nine years since the last episode aired, so obviously the fashion has changed. The outfits in the reboot fit the current trends and the main characters each have their own style. Do you want to recreate their most iconic looks so far, without having a big impact on the earth? Continue reading to see some similar pieces from sustainable brands, so you can start dressing like an Upper East Sider.

In this post, we’re looking at seven looks from Julien Calloway, played by Jordan Alexander. This is the last part of a 5 part series. The previous posts covered the outfits from four other main characters: Audrey Hope, Monet de Haan, Luna La and Zoya Lott.

Julien Calloway

Julien Calloway is an influencer and rising model. At Constance Billard-St. Jude’s School, Julien is the top trendsetter. Her outfits are edgy and barely meet the school dress code. Some staple pieces in her wardrobe are white button-ups shirts, cropped or oversized sweaters, skirts, sweatpants/track pants and cycling/biker shorts. She finishes her outfits with some kind of jacket like a trench coat, bomber jacket, leather shearling jacket or pinstripe blazer. The accessories she adds to her outfits are a scarf, bandana or tie around her neck, a fanny pack/bum bag, luxury handbag and lots of rings. As for shoes, she likes wearing high boots and chunky sneakers.

Browse Your Own Closet & Thrift

First of all, the most sustainable (and cheapest) way of recreating outfits is of course by looking through your own wardrobe. You can also find a lot in thrift stores. Some items you probably already have in your wardrobe are a long white button-up shirt, a sweater in any colour really, simple white long top, sneakers, scarf or tie, bike shorts and a dark blue skirt. You might be able to find coloured track pants and a vintage bomber jacket at your local thrift store, and you can check Depop or another online second-hand platform for luxury handbags. Make sure the white button-up is long enough to almost be worn as a dress. Below are some outfits I put together from items I already have in my closet. Most of the items were actually thrifted, so it’s twice as sustainable.

Sustainable alternatives to Billie Eilish’s ‘Lost Cause’ neutral loungewear

Billie Eilish was always known for her oversized, baggy and multicoloured outfits. But: new album, new style. The “Happier Than Ever” album cover perfectly represents the new era of Billie Eilish: soft monochrome neutrals. Earlier this year, she released a music video for her fourth single “Lost Cause” and it gives major slumber party vibes. She and her girlfriends wear coordinated neutral and monochromatic loungewear, like an oversized beige T-shirt with cream bike shorts. Lucky for us, this style is much easier to recreate than her previous one…

30 Sustainable Mini Skirts For Summer 2022

The summer solstice was just a few days ago, and one of the pieces you’ll see a lot in summer 2022, is a mini skirt. Mini skirts first made an appearance in the 60s but the 2022 version is more inspired by the early 2000s: low-waisted and very, very short. Not everyone will feel comfortable wearing a skirt that’s nearly the size of a belt, so I’ve compiled a list of 30 ethical and wearable options that you can also continue wearing after this season if you do a bit of layering….
