Sustainable Black Friday And Cyber Monday 2021 Deals

With Thanksgiving (for all my American readers) and Black Friday around the corner, it is time to start preparing our wish list. Black Friday is officially on 26th November, but some brands are starting extra early. As sustainable fashion is often more expensive than fast fashion, this is the perfect time to treat yourself with an eco-friendly item if you’re making the switch to a more ethical wardrobe. On this page, you will see an overview of sustainable clothing brands that are offering Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals this year. Some of them offer discounts up to 50% or even 70%!

Before we get to the list of Black Friday deals, I have to touch on the environmental impact of this day. Black Friday is a controversial topic when it comes to sustainability, and not all sustainable brands participate. Some examples of brands that are making the commitment to not take part in this ‘hyperconsumption’ day are Spanish brand Ecoalf and Dutch brand Alchemist.

Black Friday is known for causing mindless mass consumption. Just seeing the amount of discount a product has, is already enough for many people to buy something. After this weekend full of reckless spending, people often realize they didn’t need most or all of the items that are now lying around in their house. Brands will often overproduce leading up to the holiday season because they know they will be able to get rid of everything anyway. All of this results in a lot of unnecessary waste and huge carbon emissions. And the waste is not just from the products that are thrown away because they’re not needed, but also all the packaging waste.

If you ask me, whether this Black Friday weekend will be harmful or not, all depends on our own behaviour. Buying something on discount during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend isn’t inherently bad. It becomes bad when you browse through the sales without having a clear list of the things you need and solely base your decision on the price difference. I know it’s tempting to see the discount percentages, which is why I encourage you to prepare first.

Before you scroll down, please take a moment to think about the items you really need, or what kind of gifts you want to get your loved ones this Christmas. Going into this with a blank mind might result in a lot of purchases you won’t really end up using. Also try to first check all the deals and choose afterwards which items are your favourites and are really worth buying. And if you do want to splurge because you can’t afford sustainable items without the discounts, try to be mindful of your buying behaviour the rest of the year.

1. MATE

The first brand on the list is perfect for those of us who are in need of some comfy loungewear or even a work-from-home outfit. American brand MATE produces locally in LA and visits the factories on a weekly basis. Click here to read more about what makes this brand sustainable.

MATE offers deals for both Black Friday and Cyber Monday. From 24th November 2021 until 1st December at 11:59pm Pacific Time, they offer 30% – 50% off on everything! Below are some of my personal favourite items that make me want to snuggle up on the couch with a blanket and hot chocolate. Click here to browse through all their items.

If you decide to shop on Cyber Monday, you can get an additional deal, because if you spend more than $150, you will get a $25 gift card, and if you spend $300, you’ll receive a $75 gift card! The Cyber Monday deals run from 29th November at 12am Pacific Time until 1st December at 11:59pm Pacific Time.

2. Encircled

The second brand on the list is Canadian brand Encircled. Click here to find out why this brand is sustainable. Encircled has put together a Black Friday Collection. All items that are included are 20% off. Their sale runs from November 22nd at 9:00 AM EST to November 29th at 11:59 PM EST. 3. Bhumi

This next brand is perfect if you’re ready to incorporate sustainability all over your house, rather than only in your wardrobe. Australian brand Bhumi offers bedding and bath textiles. Sheets, pillow cases, blankets, throws, towels, bath mats and more. They also have some basic clothing items for both men and women, such as tank tops, leggings and underwear. 4. Conscious Step

The fourth brand on this list offers the perfect gifts for a birthday or upcoming Christmas. Socks are always an easy choice to give, and pretty much everyone enjoys receiving them. By purchasing these socks, you’ll not only get comfy socks with pretty designs, but you’re also giving back to non-profits. Every pair is linked to a non-profit organization, and for every pair purchased, $1 is donated to the charity. So, you can choose which cause you want to support. 5. For Days

The fall and winter seasons are the perfect time to wear comfy and warm loungewear. American brand For Days has cozy pieces for men and women, and a lot of the items are unisex. They also have some items for babies and kids. Perfect if you have a little niece or nephew in the family. For Black Friday, you can get 30% off selected items with the code BETTERBF. A big bonus for this sale is that For Days will give back to the local communities. 1% of every order goes towards building a school for their factory worker’s children. 6. Neu Nomads

Neu Nomads is the latest addition to the list of sustainable brands. Click here to read about them before you shop their items. Neu Nomads is a womenswear brand based in the United States. This week, they are offering a Thanksgiving sale with selected styles being up to 70% off! You can get this gorgeous maxi v-neck dress shown below for only $68 USD with an original price of $235! 7. A-dam

This is another brand that has the perfect gifts for a birthday or Christmas. Especially if you live in Europe, because this brand is based in the Netherlands. For Black Friday, everything is 35% off! A-dam has underwear, swimwear, activewear, T-shirts, loungewear and lots of socks, for men, women and kids. Scrolling through their items is like being in a candy store, and it was difficult to limit myself to only picking 4 favourites. 8. Organic Basics

As the name suggests, Organic Basics offers all the basics everyone needs in their closet. This brand is based in Denmark, and you can see an overview of their sustainability efforts here. For this year’s Black Friday, they are offering up to 40% off. Just like For Days, this brand will also go the extra mile to make this Black Friday more sustainable. For every order placed, they will donate €10 to WWF for the Regenerative Organic Cotton Pilot Project. Below are some items I believe will be handy in anyone’s wardrobe. The next brand is based in the US and all garments are produced locally in Los Angeles. LA Relaxed offers womenswear, loungewear, sleepwear and even a few items for kids. 10. NOVICA

The next one on the list is your one-stop-shop for eco-friendly gifts for yourself and all your loved ones. NOVICA is an American marketplace where you can buy handmade products directly from global artisans. You can find a lot of different things on their website: womenswear, menswear, accessories, jewellery, but also home items like decorations, home furnishings, tableware and even paintings. They also have a range of clean beauty items like natural make-up and skincare products. For this year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday, they are offering six discount codes. Three for Black Friday, and three for Cyber Monday.

The codes below are for Black Friday, and they are valid from 22nd November 2021 until 27th November 2021 at 11:59 PM PT.

The next one is Spanish brand TWOTHIRDS. Apart from clothing for women and men, they also have some sneakers, and accessories like scarves, socks, towels and bags. Speaking of the sale, this brand doesn’t like using the term Black Friday due to the overconsumption caused by this day. 12. WAMA Underwear

Sustainable undies are a great gift idea for your significant other for Christmas or a birthday. American brand WAMA Underwear offers underwear for both men and women, in many shapes, sizes and colours. They’re made from hemp and organic cotton.
