How To Dress Like Maddy From Euphoria In A Sustainable Way

Four outfits worn by Maddy in Euphoria and five sustainable items to recreate the looks

When there’s a new TV show that takes place in high school or college, you know the fashion won’t disappoint. There have only been two seasons so far of Euphoria, but the style of the main characters has already made a big impact. A lot of the looks are not even realistic outfits you could wear to high school, especially if there’s a strict dress code, but you can still take inspiration for when you go out with friends or even if you want an easy Halloween fit. A lot of fast fashion brands have quickly jumped on the trends and you can see Euphoria-inspired items everywhere. However, there are many sustainable brands who have similar pieces as well, and you can also find a lot in thrift stores. So, if you’re obsessed with the fashion in Euphoria, consider checking sustainable brands and secondhand shops first, so we don’t harm the planet too much with our fashion cravings.

In this post series, I’m diving into the most iconic looks from some of the main characters, and show you how you can recreate the looks with items from sustainable brands. In this fourth post, Maddy Perez, who has a confident and bold personality, which she also shows through her style. Check out the other posts to read the guides on how to dress like the other main characters Jules Vaughn, Rue Bennett and Cassie Howard.

Maddy Perez

Maddy Perez, played by Alexa Demie, is a fierce extrovert who doesn’t care what others think of her. In the first season she was best friends with Cassie, and had a turbulent on-and-off relationship with one of the main male characters Nate. She is known for being straightforward and blurting out everything that pops into her mind.

Maddy started off with a feminine style in season 1 and transitioned to a more mature and edgier style in season 2 with a darker colour palette. She wears a lot of matching two-piece sets, for example a bralette or crop top with flared pants in the same colour, or a mini skirt with a matching crop top. While her former best friend Cassie only wears high waisted bottoms, Maddy also experiments with YK2 inspired low waisted jeans and skirts. She also occasionally wears mini dresses with a floral print, lace hem or a bold cut-out. Her jeans and pants are flared and paired with many kinds of crop tops.

Browse Your Own Closet & Secondhand stores

The most sustainable way to recreate an outfit is by using things you already own. Some of Maddy’s looks have items you might already have in your closet, like a floral mini dress, a black denim skirt with a black bomber jacket, a cropped tank top or flared pants. If you don’t own enough items to create a full Maddy-inspired outfit, the next step would be to do some thrift shopping. You can do this at your local thrift store or on online apps and websites like Vinted, Depop, thredUP and Poshmark. Here are a few keywords you can use to find the most Maddy-like items: bralettes, crop tops, cut-out dresses, mini skirts, flared pants, low rise jeans, two-piece sets and floral mini dresses.

To keep you on the right path while you’re shopping, you can use the pictures above as a guideline where I compiled Maddy’s most iconic looks.

Sustainable alternatives to Billie Eilish’s ‘Lost Cause’ neutral loungewear

Billie Eilish was always known for her oversized, baggy and multicoloured outfits. But: new album, new style. The “Happier Than Ever” album cover perfectly represents the new era of Billie Eilish: soft monochrome neutrals. Earlier this year, she released a music video for her fourth single “Lost Cause” and it gives major slumber party vibes. She and her girlfriends wear coordinated neutral and monochromatic loungewear, like an oversized beige T-shirt with cream bike shorts. Lucky for us, this style is much easier to recreate than her previous one…

How To Reduce Microplastic Pollution From Our Clothes

The creation and excessive use of plastics in the past century have resulted in a new threat for the planet and all who inhabit it. Microplastics are infiltrating every part of our environment, affecting animals and our own health. Fashion contributes to this microplastic pollution because the most used clothing fiber is currently polyester, a plastic material. Luckily, there are things we can do to reduce the amount of microplastics we release and prevent them from ending up in our bodies. This 3-part series of posts will highlight the invisible threat that is entering our drinking water, how fashion is involved and what you can do to lower your own impact. In this third and last part, we’re going to look at how we can reduce microplastic pollution and things you can incorporate into your daily life to contribute…
